Recognition of qualifications

Recognition of the regulated professional qualifications in the Republic of Lithuania is coordinated by the Ministry of Economy. The coordinate institution designates a Coordinator for the recognition of professional qualifications, who provides information for the EU Commission and other Member States, and also performs other functions:

• participates into the work of the European Commission Committee on the recognition of professional qualifications, of the EU Member states Group of the coordinators for recognition of professional qualifications, maintains relations with EU and other Member States appropriate institutions, provides information about national legislation and responsible institutions for the recognition of the regulated professional qualifications;
• coordinates competent institutions work in the field of the recognition of the regulated professional qualifications;
• provides recommendations and suggestions for the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, concerning drafts of legal acts;
• according the determinate order, arranges and provides reports for the EU Commission about recognition of the regulated professional qualifications;
• composes and arranges the list of competent institutions and regulated professions.

Ministry of Economy, as a contact institution according to the Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the recognition of professional qualifications regulations, is responsible for:

• providing necessary information to the citizens and contact points of other Member States concerning the recognition of professional qualifications: information about the national laws, regulated professions and professional activities , also including laws on social security, and, where appropriate, the rules of ethics;
• in cooperation with other EU Member states contact points and the competent authorities of the Republic of Lithuania, assisting citizens in realizing the rights determinated by the law on the recognition of regulated professional qualifications by the Republic of Lithuania;
• administrating website of the recognition of the regulated professional qualifications in the Republic of Lithuania;
• arranging and organizing the publishing of the methodological and informational material.
